International Scientific Cooperation with Moldova:
Results and Strategies for the Future
A two-day conference hosted by the Moldovan Research and Development
Association (MRDA) and the Academy of Sciences of Moldova on March 26 and 27
examined the results and future of international scientific cooperation
with Moldova.
Sponsored by the U.S. Civilian Research and Development Foundation (CRDF),
the event highlighted scientific projects sponsored by the MRDA-CRDF
Moldovan-U.S. Bilateral Grants Program, a program that supports collaborative
research between joint teams of Moldovan and U.S. scientists in basic and
applied sciences. The conference also provided an opportunity for
participants to discuss the issues faced by Moldovan scientists today, as well
as the future of international cooperation and the CRDF-MRDA grant
programs.
Invited guest speakers included Valerian Cristea, Viceprim Minister of the
Republic of Moldova; Academician Gheorghe Duca, President of the Moldovan
Academy of Science and Honorary President of the MRDA; U.S. Ambassador Heather
M. Hodges; and Tom Owens, Chief Executive Officer of the CRDF.
